KUALA LUMPUR: An anti-GST rally to be held at Padang Merbok here Saturday has been given the green light, Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar said Friday.

Commending the organisers for following the proper procedure in getting permission to use the location for the rally, Khalid said police would assist in maintaining order and ensuring the safety of protestors.

"This is what I have been saying about going by the law and getting the permission for the rally.

"Don't disrupt the traffic at Jalan Tunku Abdul Rahman, or be a nuisance to the public and traders in the area," he said, referring to previous rallies.

"We don't want anyone to disturb the group in exercising their freedom of speech. We will also ensure their safety is not threatened by any quarters that might oppose them.

"It's our responsibility," he added, while reminding protesters to be careful and not break any law while exercising their freedom of expression.

The rally is being organised by Dewan Ulamak PAS Pusat.
